Starting with the best example of a fully original Sansui AU-555A. It's nice to begin with a clean unit that has been very well looked after
If you come across this unit in the future, here's the serial number. All serial numbers and restoration details are recorded in our database for future reference
Handy having multiple units where we have rebuilt boards ready to install
All 3 circuit boards were stripped back to the bare board. All solder removed, professionally cleaned and sealed. Shown here is the main amp board.
Every component replaced with a new, upgraded modern component, except for the transistors, bar noise prone ones. It's important to retain as many original transistors, to retain the amp's character. Only the noise prone 2SA726 transistors were replaced with KSA992 units
All small resistors replaced with higher wattage 1% metal film resistors to ensure maximum stability. Output capacitors were upgraded to 6800uF Epcos low ESR units. All ceramic caps replaced with Vishay SLCC/MLCC. Small electrolytic caps were upgraded to WIMA polypropylene film caps. Greencaps replaced with Panasonic ECQE film caps.
All wirewound cement resistors repalced.
VR's replaced with Bourns
